Home Stripped: The Book Meet The Characters From Stripped
Stephanie and Donte
Vegas wouldn’t have been Vegas without the “Folies Bergere,” Minsky’s Follies,” and the “Lido de Paris” in the 1950’s and 60’s. Stephanie and her husband, Donte, kept the tradition alive. Formerly lead dancers in two of the premier topless dance shows on the Strip, they have been Christians for three years. What is a Vegas showgirl like? Not necessarily what you’d expect.

Sonny
In the ancient world it used to be said that all roads lead to Rome. In today’s world, at least in the realm of broken relationships, it might be said that all roads lead to Vegas. When Sonny arrived in Vegas he was running from his misbegotten past in California. Eventually it caught up with him. Sonny was a successful bass pro-fisherman on his way to millions, who smoked everything he had in a crack pipe and ended up homeless, seeping in his part. Thankfully, his story did not end there.

Brian
Elvis became an adopted son of Vegas, selling out the Hilton 837 straight times and leaving in his wake squads of impersonators and wedding chapels. Brian is a “Flying Elvi,” a group of Elvis impersonators, any one of which will sky dive into your outdoor party and sing “Don’t Be Cruel.” This Elvis found God in 2002.

Jason
Sinatra, Dino, Sammy Davis Jr. and the Rat Pack put Vegas on the entertainment map in the 50’s, and it is bursting with young talent today. Jason made it to Hollywood on American Idol, only to miss the final cut. The no’s he heard from Simon and Randy—after a phase of pot smoking and binge drinking—helped lead him to faith. Ever wonder what American Idol is like behind the scenes? Jason’s story gives you an inside look at the show and at one person’s journey to faith.

Scott
Scott moved to Vegas to die. He had worked for a cosmetics company as a designer with a corner office in Manhattan. With lots of success he became a highly promiscuous member of the New York City gay community. Diagnosed with AIDS, he came to Las Vegas to die, but found a new purpose instead.

Chris
Vegas is notorious for its quickie divorces and blackout drinking a la Nicholas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas. But in the midst of it a flower can grow. Chris, an 18-year-old high school junior, was lost in booze and drugs. Befriended by a guitarist of the same age, he gave his life to Christ the night before he experienced a horrific post-midnight car crash.

Geoff
Invented by a Bavarian immigrant, slot machines were synonymous with Vegas by the 1940’s. Their blooping sound can be heard all over the city today. Geoff earned his stripes in the back rooms of casinos, counting money as people partied. He made a lot of money and was part of the team to develop the most popular slot machine in America, only to find no meaning or satisfaction in his life. Raised as a non-believing Jew, he embraced a Jewish messiah.

Henry and Dawn
Henry was one of the good guys, a hero in life and death. As a police sergeant, he responded to a 911 domestic violence call that got completely out of control. Over 100 shots were fired between the abuser and law enforcement. Henry was tragically killed at point blank range. Thankfully, Henry had no unfinished business with God or others. His funeral and legacy have continued on through his wife, Dawn, and family. They have inspired thousands of people to follow God and live with no unfinished business.
